Routine Exams at Animal Hospital of Clemmons

During a routine exam, the vet will inspect all aspects of your pet's physical state to ascertain their overall health. This will include:

General Condition

We will begin the exam by taking a look at your pet's general demeanor and body condition: how they walk and stand, whether they look bright and alert, and whether their body weight is in a healthy range.

Coat & Skin

We will examine the coat and skin for any apparent problems, such as excessive dryness or oiliness, dandruff, excessive shedding, lumps, bumps or abnormal hair loss.

Face & Head

Your pet's eyes, ears, and nose will be examined for any signs of problems, such as discharge, abnormalities or growths. We will look at the mouth for signs of oral health problems like plaque buildup or periodontal disease.

Internal Health

We will check your pet's heart and pulse to identify potential abnormalities in the heart rate and/or rhythm, or blood pressure issues. We will also listen to the lungs for evidence of abnormal breathing.

The lymph nodes will be assessed for swelling or pain, and the abdomen to ensure that the bladder, kidneys, liver, intestines, spleen and stomach are normal, and to see if there is any evidence of discomfort.

Puppies & Kittens

We will start your new buddy off with a thorough physical exam, vaccinations, parasite testing, and deworming medication.

We will also provide information about how to care for your new pet, and provide you with a puppy or kitten kit with samples and lots of helpful of educational material.

Seniors

Cats and dogs in North America are living longer than ever before, thanks in large part to advances in veterinary knowledge, new therapies and better nutrition.

In addition to the routine wellness procedures we perform on all adult animals, our senior patients receive special attention for age-related issues, like arthritis or decreased vision. Additional laboratory tests will also help us assess your senior pet’s overall health.
